Omega-3 (EPA/DHA): dosing, timing and what to expect

Long-chain fatty acids with well-established cardiovascular and anti-inflammatory effects. Relevant on TRT because testosterone raises haematocrit, and relevant to fertility because DHA is a major component of the sperm membrane.

Also known as fish oil, EPA, DHA

What people actually run

Worth taking specifically on TRT, where haematocrit rises and blood viscosity is the thing you are managing.

This is accumulated community practice — years of real-world use across a large number of people, converging on numbers that work. It is not a controlled trial, and for most compounds here no such trial exists or is ever likely to. That makes this the most reliable dosing signal available, and it is a good deal better than guessing.

What to expect

Most people tolerate Omega-3 (EPA/DHA) well. Here is what is worth knowing going in, so nothing catches you by surprise.

Mildly antiplatelet, so it compounds with aspirin, warfarin or anything else thinning your blood — worth mentioning to whoever is managing that. Buy on EPA/DHA content rather than capsule size; "1000 mg fish oil" is often 300 mg of what you actually want. Rancid fish oil is common and actively pro-inflammatory, so buy fresh and refrigerate.

Preparing it

Omega-3 (EPA/DHA) does not need reconstituting — it comes ready to use.
